Anyone who uses an Apple computer running OS X will appreciate this software for backing up their system, which is why we use Carbon Copy Cloner. We have used this software since its inception in 2002 and give thanks to Mike Bombich who created the application.
Carbon Copy isn’t just a backup solution for your files, rather, it is an application that clones your whole computer to another hard drive. This means that you could lose your current system in a complete failure and not even worry about it if you have a copy of your system made with Carbon Copy Cloner. If your laptop is unfortunately stolen or even damaged on set with a spilled coffee you will be fine if you have a backup of the system. Or, if you are having a case of the “my computer is SO SLOW” syndrome, just make a copy of your system to a drive, and then copy it back to your computer which will rewrite the defragmentation that has occurred with your files.
The program is very easy to use and is considered shareware, which means the author uses donations to fund updates and future releases. All of the support documentation on how to use the application comes with the download… so back your system up!
Firelabs recommends a solid, portable firewire drive for your external backup drive. You’ll have to choose a firewire 400 or firewire 800, depending on what computer you currently have. We recommend purchasing these from Other World Computing aka OWC, as they have served Firelabs editing systems since year 2000 and have been of great service. Good luck!
Tiger/Leopard download HERE.
OS X 10.2 and 10.3 should use this version.
